Reptiles

Dixie Trail Animal Clinic is one of the few clinics in the area that treats exotic animals including reptiles. Many people don't realize that reptiles need exams and parasite control just like your dog or cat.

We have experience with the following:

  • Turtles/Tortoises
  • Chameleons
  • Geckos
  • Bearded Dragons
  • Monitors
  • Uromastyx
  • Iguanas

We have the training and experience to help you care for your reptiles and recommend the following reptile schedule for optimum care.

  • Annual physical
  • Fecal exam once a year
  • Blood sexing
  • Reptile Tips

Iguanas and Snakes

These reptiles need supplemental heat all the time. We do not recommend heat rocks due to their point source of heat, which frequently leads to thermal burns that can be quite serious. Because of their physiology, their metabolism does not operate at peak performance when they are too cool. This means their digestion, immune and reproductive systems may not function properly, making the animal more susceptible to disease.

Iguanas

We recommend the full spectrum Ceramic Heat Bulbs mounted above the cage, but not so far away that the heat dissipates before reaching the animal. Also strive for Thermal Zones within the enclosure so that if the animal gets too hot it can move away.
